The challenge

Lodders had grown and changed, but its website had not. It looked dated, was hard to update, and didn't reflect the quality of the firm's work. The site is also complex, with many services, several offices and over 100 legal professionals.

My approach

I was the only designer and worked closely with the client throughout. We built a great working relationship, and their trust in my approach gave me the freedom to shape the designs.

To tackle the complexity, I ran an information architecture workshop with key stakeholders. Together, we worked out the clearest way to organise the content around what clients need. I then built prototypes to plan the flow of each page before moving into full designs.

The new branding, created by an external agency, was a joy to work with. It was so strong that it shaped every design decision. My favourite detail is a moving white line on the homepage, showing how Lodders guides clients through the maze of legal matters. This idea runs through the whole site.

I created a design system in Figma, covering colours, type, buttons, components and page templates, and shared it with the client. I also worked closely with the developers through regular check-ins, handoffs and design reviews.

The results

Within six months of launch:

  • 58% increase in website enquiries
  • 34% reduction in bounce rate
  • 3x faster content publishing

This was one of my favourite projects. The strong brand and close client relationship made it a joy from start to finish.
